Welcome to Sara Corwin Photography. The first thing that you should know about me is that I absolutely love being a headshot and portrait photographer. Having picked up my first camera when I was 4 years old, It’s long been clear to me that photography would be my lifelong passion, and I bring that passion to every shoot, for every client.
I majored in photography and film at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, where I received the best formal training possible. After graduating from NYU I worked for a studio product photographer in New York City. I quickly discovered, however, that making images of inanimate objects under studio lights did not fit with my passion for working with people and natural light. Los Angeles, and its people, has offered me the opportunity to do both.
I started Sara Corwin Photography in 1994 and quickly, my career took off beyond all of my early expectations. I’ve been fortunate to work with up-and-coming and experienced actors, as well as musicians, book authors, television hosts, newscasters, comedians, dancers, and models – all of whom I’ve found to be extraordinary subjects, and the subjects of many extraordinary images. I’ve also found joy and success in creating engagement photos, and photographing couples, families, pets, and weddings – a joy that I try to express through my work. I also have a great affinity for musicians, and have frequently visited Nashville to photograph some very gifted musicians...most notably Grammy-nominated bluegrass guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel. Other subjects have included alternative country stars Angela Easterling, Mikaela Dewar, Lyric Everly, and John Knowles. I have also photographed Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction and the Red Hot Chili peppers, and Christopher "Kid" Reid of Kid and Play, among others.
Among my working actor clients are Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jake Gyllenhaal, Rey Valentin (HBO's Generation Kill), Joel McKinnon Miller (HBO's Big Love), Peter Paige (Showtime's Queer as Folk), Kurt Fuller (Midnight in Paris and television’s Better with you); Darcy Rose Byrnes (ABC’s Desperate Housewives), Larisa Oleynik (Mad Men and Ten Things I Hate About You), Jon Wellner (CSI Vegas), Parry Shen (Better Luck tomorrow), Ben Weber (Sex and the City), Laura Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program and Showtime's The Big C), Amanda Bearse (Married with Children), Lee Majors, Eve Plumb, and Richard Grieco; and many actors known for the commercial work, including Jerry Lambert, recognized for his Geico commercials, and “Commercial Queen” Joy Lofton, who has appeared in over 20 National commercials. I've shot 4 academy award nominees, two of who have won. I've established great relationships with my clients and have had recurring business from some for nearly 18 years.
I work out of my home studio, designed specifically for natural light photography with a variety of backgrounds, but will also work on location. I interact closely with each person I'm photographing, aware that every client has different qualities to be accentuated. I not only seek out the best physical attributes of each client, but the personality, the spark that reflects their individuality and specific talents so that they stand out from the pack in their head shots. My sessions always include hair, make-up and styling. I've worked with the same hair and make-up stylist for ten years, not only because we work beautifully together, but because she’s also the best in the business. This way there are no surprises on the day of your session.

It's a team effort to get you the best, most striking and personally reflective photographs possible. Nothing makes us happier than seeing our clients in films, on television, in commercials, on cd covers and book jackets. Our primary interest is helping you find that success. I am deeply committed to helping new actors find agents, and will help with cover letters and photo choices. I am on many agent and manager lists and am very happy to consult and work with them. Many acting teachers also recommend me. My goal is to create a fun, safe environment, where you can express yourself freely and help me to capture all of your best sides. This, I believe, is the only way to reach the result we both want: photos that get you work.
